Communications Associate

Are you a creative communicator who is motivated by a working for a mission? We are seeking an engaged, solution-oriented communications professional to join our team.

In this position you will have a unique opportunity to be part of a cross-cultural, dedicated, creative and fast-paced team consisting of designers, engineers, implementation specialists and researchers, located in Norway, India, Tanzania, and Nepal.

Laerdal Global Health (www.laerdalglobalhealth.com) is a not-for-profit company dedicated to ending preventable maternal and neonatal mortality in low-resource settings. By 2030, we have a goal of helping save 550,000 more maternal and neonatal lives every year.

The sister company to Laerdal Medical, we have a shared headquarters in Stavanger, Norway.


About the role

The Communication Associate works closely with the Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, and others across the Impact & Implementation team to develop dynamic and engaging communication materials (both digital and print). These deliverables will target a range of audiences from internal staff at Laerdal to UN policy makers and healthcare providers. This position is looking for storytelling skills which will help us reach a range of stakeholders, most importantly our partners.


Responsibilities include

  • External Communication: Develop clear, engaging communication through news stories and social media consistent with the Laerdal Global Health voice. Explore new platforms and mediums including webinars and newsletters.
  • Storytelling around Impact & Partnership: Creating visual and engaging content which communicates our key partnerships and contributions within maternal and newborn health. This includes translation of data and research into simple messages and graphics.
  • Improved Analytics & Communication Strategy: Developing monthly reports on analytics from social media and other communication campaigns. Identify clear lessons and recommendations for future external communications.
  • Visual Asset Management: Identify gaps in marketing and communication assets, and execute a plan to capture photos and videos, including systematized editing, tagging, and storage.
  • Website Content: Development of content on Laerdal Global Health and shared websites, with a focus on news stories and development of landing pages for important programs and projects.


About you

You are passionate about the power of good storytelling to inspire an audience. You have a strong ownership of the English language and communicate confidently, clearly, and in an engaging manner both verbally and in writing. You are a quick learner, and quick to execute.

Your professional and educational experience includes:

  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree within communication, visual design, or marketing.
  • Professional experience in a communication, brand management and/or marketing.
  • A good understanding of copywriting, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and strategies in written form.
  • Experience with social media communication and campaigning.
  • Experience in planning or executing small video productions for launches or documentation of field work.

You may also have:

  • Experience with social media analytics and development of infographics.
  • Graphic design experience, including illustration and animation.
  • Familiarity with webpage maintenance and development (WordPress/Epi Server).
  • Proficiency in Adobe design tools including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and quick video editing software.
  • Experience working in low-resource settings and working in the maternal newborn health sector.
