Policy Monitoring and Campaign Assistant [Belgium]


 

#DiasporaVote! is searching for an intern to take on a Political Monitoring & Campaign assistant role. If you are passionate about democratic participation and the diaspora community living in Europe, and are looking for policy and campaign experience at an EU level, particularly with the upcoming 2024 European Parliament elections, this internship is for you!

Purpose of position: To assist the Anti-racism policy lead, the policy monitoring coordinator and the campaign officer

Supervised by: Anti-racism policy lead and the policy monitoring coordinator

About #DiasporaVote!

#DiasporaVote! was created in 2018 to counter the lack of recognition and adapted regulations towards the issues faced by ethnic minorities at EU level. Our goal is to encourage racialized individuals in Europe to show interest in the development of EU policies and be the voice of their community at a higher level. In other words, we want them to be more active in politics and vote!

#DiasporaVote! Provides several activities and opportunities for diaspora to be involved and engage at EU level:

  • Policy Dialogues with EU Officials.
  • Advocacy: on issues facing the diaspora living in Europe.
  • Event/panel participation: Anti-racism summit, European Youth Event (EYE), European Youth Forum, The future is Green: Youth Assembly, Decolonial Europe Day.
  • Campaigns: European Parliament Elections (voting), Work with your MEP, European Year of Youth and The Face of Europe.
  • Work with your MEP: youth and mentorship program with Members of the European Parliament.
  • #DiasporaVote! Fellows: previous beneficiaries who contribute to building our position on various topics by giving workshops, writing thought leadership and attending events on behalf of the organization.
  • Training: on policy provided to youth and developed by youth.

Responsibilities

For policy monitoring:

  • Reading and analyzing relevant political content to build briefings;
  • Producing tailored summaries of relevant political and parliamentary reports;
  • Producing tailored biographies of politicians as required;
  • Reviewing select committee and debate summaries produced by Political Researchers;
  • Undertaking ad-hoc research and producing briefings on political announcements;
  • Attending policy meeting and panel discussion on behalf of #DiasporaVote!;
  • Cooperate with the Communications team to ensure that the #DiasporaVote! policy work is well promoted;
  • Support the development and implementation of #DiasporaVote! policy monitoring;
  • Other relevant tasks linked to this activity.

For the campaign:

  • Provide policy content for the development of the #DiasporaVote! training on EU policy making;
  • For our election campaign, help produce summaries on EU policy outcomes and MEPs work.

Qualifications

  • Good command in English and French and any other language is advantageous
  • Degree in a relevant discipline and/or still studying or proven experience and collaboration in this field (Political sciences, EU studies, International Relations)
  • Knowledge of up-to-date issues linked to EU relations and international affairs
  • Good communication skills and networking strategies
  • Good writing, editing skills and/or presentation skills
  • Be proactive and highly reactive to emails
  • Passionate on diaspora issues; anti-racism, youth issues, international events and international affairs
  • Based in Belgium or willing to move to Brussels for the internship
  • Have the right to work in Belgium

Your other attributes may include:

  • Professionalism and ease to talk in public;
  • Personal and/or professional experience abroad or in multicultural settings.
